Since 1943, Badra Estates has been family-owned and operated for three generations. Their plantations are located in Karnataka’s Chickmagalur District, home of the Bababudan Giri Hills and birthplace of Indian coffee. Legend has it that it was in this region that the sage, Bababudan, planted the first coffee seeds which he brought from Yemen in 1670.
Bettadkhan, one of the Mammen family’s estates, is a lush, tropical highland. Following tradition, their coffee is shade-grown, hand-picked, and sun-dried. Post-harvest, all coffees are processed in-house at their milling unit, where they undergo rigid grading and curing controls to guarantee quality.
Badra has been proudly employing the local community for generations, with a growing percentage of their workforce coming from out of state. Regardless of where their workforce hails, all workers have access to medical, education, social and recreational, and retirement benefits.
