FAQs

WHAT IS KAAPI?

Simply put, it's what South Indians call "coffee." Sometimes also called the Long Pour, First Degree, or Filter Kaapi, it's a richly intense, milk-frothy, aromatic coffee, traditionally enjoyed in South India.

CAN I USE OTHER BEANS TO MAKE KAAPI?

Sure! Just bear in mind, not all beans are equal. To brew the best, most traditional kind of kaapi, choose a medium roasted bean that can hold its own with milk and sugar.

CAN I USE THESE BEANS WITH MY FRENCH PRESS OR CHEMEX, ETC.?

Yes! Go right ahead! Obviously, we are all about the kaapi, but explore, have fun, and let us know what you come up with! We like to switch it up from time to time.

WHEN WILL MY BEANS SHIP?

We believe in the magic of freshly roasted coffee, so we ship as soon as it’s roasted and packed. Ideally, coffee needs to chill out for a day or two for optimal flavor. By the time it gets to you, it’s prime time for brewing your ceremonial cup.  We roast every two weeks on Mondays, so if you’re order gets to us by 10am EST, it’ll be included in Monday’s afternoon shipment.

WAIT, INDIA + COFFEE… NOT JUST TEA?

Yes, and some “damn good” coffee, too! For various reasons that we won’t get into here, India was kinda late getting into the high-quality coffee game, but they’re making up for lost time and taking names. It’s our personal mission to extensively seek out some of the highest quality coffees in Southern India and bring them to you.

IS YOUR COFFEE CERTIFIED ORGANIC, FAIR TRADE, ETC.?

Our coffee is personally sourced, Direct Trade. It is shade-grown at higher elevations, wildlife friendly (elephants, monkeys, birds), and is grown in a highly safe and ecologically sustainable way. Despite this, it is not certified “organic” given the costly add-on price tag for the label.

HOW LONG WILL MY BEANS KEEP?

Freshly roasted coffee is best, period, but like anything else, coffee goes through an aging and staling process so it’s best to consume it within twenty days of receiving it – we roast and immediately send to you so you have it at it’s freshest.

HOW SHOULD I STORE MY COFFEE?

To help preserve the shelf life, we recommend storing your coffee in an airtight container somewhere cool, dry, and dark. Also, contrary to popular belief, coffee should never be stored in the refrigerator or freezer. It will lose its flavor and taste dull.
